Is Blogger Better Than WordPress?

If you are just starting to get to like the idea of starting your own internet business or perhaps your own blog then there are a couple of choices to make. What I am referring to as ‘Internet Business” is more like internet marketing.

Yes, this is some advice, or more accurately food for thought regarding which blog platforms to use when starting out. There are a few popular choices and each has some benefits and drawbacks. I would like to focus on the choice between Wordpress blogs and blogger blogs which are hosted at blogspot.com.

When I first started out on my long journey to make money online, I started with a Wordpress blog. This was a mistake for me. WordPress proved to be just a tad bit complicated for a complete newbie. If you have experience working with a content management systems at works say, then working with Wordpress might not be so difficult for you, However, if you are totally and completely new to working with content management systems then Wordpress might not be your first choice.

Blogger blogs (hosted at blogspot.com) are definitely an easier, more newbie friendly platform to begin your journey as a blogger. By the way, it is much easier and faster to set up a blog then a regular website, so that is why I am focusing on blogs instead of websites. Everything needs to be easy when you are new, which is why I recommend blogger for newbies.

Having said that, I know personally quite a few internet marketers and bloggers who have lots of experience yet still choose blogger blogs over Wordpress blogs.

The advantages to using a blogger blog to get started is that it is really simple, You can sign up for an account at Google (they own blogger by the way…think about that) and have your first blog post up in less than 5 minutes! Really newbie friendly. There are some options as far as customizing goes too. You can set the amount of posts you want to appear on your home page, as well as enabling comment moderation.

Another great thing about blogger blogs is that it is super easy to put adsense on the blogs. This is made super simple obviously because again, Google owns blogger. Some folks are convinced that blogger blogs get indexed faster because they are owned by Google but I’m not totally convinced either way. The main advantage though with blogger is that you really can have a new blog set up just by following simple instructions in 5 minutes…even if you are a total noob.

The major disadvantage is that you don’t own the blogs. So if you have a brandable blog that is a total bummer when you realize you can never sell it. Along those lines you have to understand that you are at the mercy of blogger. They can delete your blogs at anytime. Once in a while it seems that blogger gets fed up with the thousands of splogs that are being hosted there and they just start deleting blogs left and right…sometimes even legit blogs get deleted too. Hasn’t happened to me personally but it does happen. I wouldn’t worry about it as long as your blogs are not spammy.

WordPress blogs are better than blogger blogs but not for a newbie. You will make money quicker (if that is whay your aim is) with a blogger blog than a Wordpresss blog. A newbie is going to take forever to learn how to manage all the features of a Wordpress blog while that same newbie could figure out a blogger blog in an hour or two. Then that blogger newbie could be out there building links and working on improving his ranking in the serps.

But Wordpress is better than blogger as a content management system. The plugins and just the whole functionality of a Wordpress blog really is impressive! I used to hate Wordpress with a passion but now I absolutely love it. So if you are a newbie then my advice put simply is this: Get going on a blogger blog or two and work with it for a few month. Just start posting and doing your site promotion. Work on getting your blogger blog to rank by building anchored links.

After getting used to how a blogger blog works you should try moving to Wordpress and it should be a bit easier.
